Wicca and Wisdom

"What is wisdom, whose value we are told is above rubies? It is not simply intelligence, or knowledge or intuition, or even understanding, though all these faculties enter into it.

Wisdom is the successful blending of all these abilities. It tells us when and how to act on the sum of their contributions - or sometimes, when to refrain from acting until the time is ripe, and what attitude to take while we are waiting.

Now, if we examine these abilities in terms of our definition of masculine or feminine emphasis - of Gifts of the God and Gifts of the Goddess - we find that overall they are a blend of the two. Intelligence and knowledge certainly belong to both, while understanding (intellectual grasp of truth) and intuition (direct grasp of truth) are the God and Goddess faces of the one function. Which is why neither a god-form nor a goddess-form alone would be adequate to personify wisdom.

...But at the moment of truth comes when we have learned to harmonize logical understanding and the intuition which stirs below the surface, and to be able to integrate and rely on both. It is the moment of magic, when the Gift of the God and the Gift of the Goddess, together, give birth to that bright flash of confident awareness which tells us that wisdom has spoken.
