God is Good, God is Great

As they prepared to eat dinner at a restaurant, Kim Kane's six-year-old son asked if he coud say grace. As they bowed their heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for desssert. And Liberty and justice for all!!! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby Kim heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, her son burst into tears and asked, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As Kim held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.

"He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer." "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart." Then in theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started the whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, Kim bought her kids ice cream at the end of the meal. What happened next came as a complete surprise.

"My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life," Kim explains. "He picked up his sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes and my soul is good already."

03/01/98 My daughter, Tara:

"Mass today was very interesting. A man keeled over and had a heart attack right in the middle of the gospel reading. So some persons who knew CPR ran to him and someone called 911. I was amazed that everyone stayed at their seats. No one panicked. After Father Francis had seen things were being taken care of he told the deacon to continue with the gospel. He had to tell him three times before he started reading. After the gospel was finished, Father went to the back and got his things for 'the annoiting of the sick' and annoited the man. Then he put the stuff away and went back to say his homily. 'The gospel today reminds us that we need to reconcile with God today because we die alone.' - not his exact words just for the record - 'Let us ask for forgiveness of our sins and those of Joseph(the man who had the heart attack).' That was his whole homily. The man was wheeled out, mass went on. Later, after mass, we shook Father's hand and headed home. As we're leaving, the woman behind us says, "Interesting Mass, Father." Father says, "Yes, Mass is always interesting when God decides to do the homily."

a man meets a guru in the road. the man asks the guru, "which way is success?" the berobed, bearded sage speaks not but points to a place off in the distance. the man, thrilled by the prospect of quick and easy success, rushes off in the appropriate direction. suddenly, there comes a loud "SPLAT." eventually, the man limps back, tattered and stunned, assuming hemust have misinterpreted the message. he repeats his question to the guru, who again points silently in the same direction. the man obediently walks off once more. this time the splat is deafening, and when the man crawls back, he is bloody, broken, tattered, and irate. "I asked you which way is success," he screams at the guru. "I followed the direction you indicatred. And all I got was splatted! No more of this pointing! Talk!" Only then does the guru speak, and what he says is this: "Success IS that way. Just a little PAST splat."

Priceless Wisdom

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food.

The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.

But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.

"I've been thinking," he said. "I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone."

Sometimes it's not the wealth you have but what's inside you that others need.

TRUTH IS FOUND MOMENT TO MOMENT

"Truth cannot be accumulated. What is accumulated is always being destroyed; it withers away. Truth can never wither because it can only be found from moment to moment in every thought, in every relationship, in every word, in every gesture, in a smile, in tears. And if you and I can find that and live it -- the very living is the finding of it -- then we shall not become propagandists; we shall be creative human beings -- not perfect human beings, but creative human beings, which is vastly different."

---- J. Krishnamurti, _The Book of Life

Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean. As he got closer he called out,"Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listed politely. Then bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

GOTTA HELP YOURSELF

A traveling preacher finds himself in a tremendous rainstorm.
Withing a few hours the hotel he is staying in becomes flooded.
As the water rises, the preacher climbs to the roof and starts praying.
"Lord, save me so I can continue on my mission of preaching your gospel."

Just then, a coast guard rescue party floats by in a rowboat.
"Let's go mister. Into the boat."

"I'll stay here," says the preacher, "The Lord will save me."

An hour later a second boat reaches the scene and the water is
close to the roof of the hotel. "Sir, you better get in.
the water is still rising."

"No thanks. The Lord will be my salvation."

Toward evening, the hotel is almost completely under water and
the preacher is clinging to the satellite dish on the roof.

A helicopter is spotted and on a loudspeaker is heard
"HSir, grab on to the line and we will pull you up.
This is your last chance.

"I'm all right," says the preacher, "I know the Lord will provide
sanctuary." as he looks heavenward.

As the boat departs, the satellite dish is hit by lightning and the
preacher is killed.

When he arrived at the Pearly Gates he was furious.
"What happened, " he shouts. "I thought the Lord would provide!"

Moments later a thunderous voice is heard. "Gimmie a break pal.
I sent you 2 boats and a chopper"

THE CROSS ROOM

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear." The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear it's weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then open another door and pick any cross you wish." The man was filled with relief. "Thank you, Lord," he sighed, and did as he was told. As he looked around the room he saw many different crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied, "My son, that's the cross you brought in."
