Our Father

A genderless word, the source of unconditional love we may never have had from another human being, a parent to the needy child within us.

Which art in Heaven

Not a place in the sky or an afterlife, but now, within us, waiting to be occupied.

Hallowed be thy name

As soon as the power of this source of universal love is made abstract by giving it a name, it can be abused by those who would claim it, proselytize, and brutalize others who call it by a different name.

Thy kingdom come

To heal this suffering world we live in.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven

My will has enslaved me. Your will is to set me free.

Give us this day our daily bread

Enough for today, no need for a surplus that can be hoarded, bought and sold. One day at a time you give me all I need if I only ask, and tomorrow you will give again.

And forgive us our trespasses

You don't speak of sins but of boundaries I have crossed.

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Having been so readily forgiven by you for violating the boundaries of others, I return the favor. I hold no ill will in order to leave room for love.

And lead us not into temptation

I am tested every day. you will lead me down another safer path if I ask you every day.

For thine is the kingdom

Not mine, or anyone else's who seeks to own it, for it is not a place to be owned.

The power

For you do not abuse it.

And the glory

For which I freely give credit where it's due, to save myself from the enslavement of grandiosity.

Forever and ever

The world will not come to an end. It will go through changes but it will not die
