After 25 years in sales with Kodak I was laid off in Jan. '03. After a year of serious looking I landed a job with Blockbuster Video as an assistant store manager. After my orientation I was told that I would be training with the store manager in Eagle Rock. When I showed up on that Monday morning I was surprised to see that it was Dave Amescua! Dave has not grown an inch!
He is a bit heavier though. He made my initial training a very comfortable process.
When I occasionally help out at other stores I have had Jim Anawalt as a customer.
I just can't seem to escape LCHS! HA HA

...And appreciate all the hard work you've done for the Class of '71.

BTW, you won't believe who I work for since the last time we communicated. Johnnie Cochran, Jr. Actually this is the best law firm I've every worked for.

01/11/04 "Hello Cheryl, I came upon the LCHS reunion page in a roundabout way.  I didn't hear about the 30th reunion, sounds like it was fun. I currently live in San Diego and have 3 children, a 15 year old daughter and 10 year old boy/girl twins.  I'm an ophthalmologist.  I hadn't been back to La Canada since 1991 until I went to JPL last year with my son's Cub Scout pack.  He loved it, I think I have a future engineer.  Hope you and your family are doing well.  Please include me in your LCHS "database".  Thanks.
BTW I saw that you didn't know where Sylvia Castano was.  We kept in touch til around 1986.  Her married name is Cox, tho she may still go by Castano, and she's an attorney in Houston.

I think you have created a "monster" for all other classes to follow. I have just been delegated the webmaster for the class of '72's web site. We have our domain name already and I have contacted Scott Fuller for help in getting it up and going. Your site is being used by us as an example as to how to do it the right way. Face it Cheryl, you were ALWAYS a tough act to follow, even in Drama! LOL

[Cheryl Miller]

*BIG GRIN* Thank you!
I found more La Canada Elementary pictures over the holidays. I have other stuff to post too.

Right now I'm helping my 17yo daughter get her web off the ground connecting Redondo Union High School with our Mexican friends. Every year our school has about 30? exchange students from Mexico for 2 weeks.  You might want to check out the blogger on that site
http://www.ruhsamigos.com
I think it's going to be an interesting way for US and Mexico to stay in touch.

I have GOT to get some work done on mbwfamily.com/lchs71.com
*weak grin* I'll let you know when something new is on that web.

I think it's going to be fascinating to be checking out the faces and stories on your site!

I don 't know if you remember me, I was in the class of '72.  I was following all your reunion info and corresponces.  I came across bill neal. I E-mailed him and I got a reply from him.  I left it on my e-mail and didn't realize that it would be automatically deleted after a period of time.  I was wondering if you would have his address.  You did a terrific job with getting people involved in communicating hope the reunion went well.  I would have loved to have gone to your reunion.  I had more friends in that class than mine.  Thanks for any info.                                                                    Holly McGee  Blaha

Hi Cheryl,

How is life? Lot's going on here with my friends - grandchildren being born, mothers' dying, and life happening here as I speak. Thank you for all your organizational skills which helped to make our reunion such a success. My husband Kip said,"I have never seen so many people having so much to talk about"- sounds like a success story to me!

I would love to hear more about you, so if you wish to share and have time, eventually, I will catch up and respond. Just know that I do not have easy access to e-mail so please do not take it personally. I live in the dark ages and when opportunity arises, I have my priorities. You are up there but must be patient- love to you, send me your pics at your first opportunity! Love you, Lisa

Long ago I read that you're not living a life unless it's bittersweet. Sound like life's full at your place.

*chuckle* My MCSE husband sometimes reminds me most aren't "hooked" up like we are, and can't answer me quickly.

My life's up on my websites.

No, you aren't a dummy. I have lots of reunion pics. Scott's supposed to post all reunion pics. He's a photographer. I think he's carefully editing each picture. He has some posted

If you are on the LCHS campus on Saturday or Sunday, please
check the "Tile Wall" on the west side of the auditorium building.
For a fund-raising donation, you can create (or have created) a
ceramic tile that will become a permanent part of the school's
architecture.

Proceeds go to the Drama department of LCHS, which is raising
money in part to replace curtains, lighting instruments and
rigging as well as upgrading the general technology of the
theatre.

Each tile costs $100. The message and artwork are up to you.
We have some tiles made in honor of family members; groups
of teachers have gone in together on a tile; there's even one
honoring our drama teacher, Bob Barker. Take a look at what
others have done to get more ideas.

You can decorate your own tile if you live locally, or a
professional artist will make a custom tile according to your
instructions. The tile painting date has not yet been set, but you
can reserve a tile at any time.

If you think you might like to have a tile honoring your family (or
the Class of '70, or ??) on our tile wall, contact me and I will get
an order form for you.

See you soon,

Jody Edwards Kenney

10/25/2001 Scott's begun posting reunion pics.  Go to his site http://www.lchs71.com/ and click on reunion photo gallery.

Please send any pics you took to Scott at: reunionpics@lchs71.com .

Those of you who I talked to who have memories not yet posted and I asked you to email them to me, please send them.  There were times I talked to people, and the memory of our conversation can slip my mind. For instance, Dean Benedict reminded me my mother, now 93, used to babysit him, and she'd have stories *devilish grin* - what stories would those be?

Just saw the Rose Queen on tv. I remember camping in sleeping bags on top of a building during a freezing night to watch the Rose Parade the next day. I remember decorating the floats one year with Michelle Colella.  Hey Dennis Phinney - 4th of July, and add to the list perhaps watching the Rose Parade. However, no camping on a freezing building for the night, 'k?

*reminder* http://www.classmates.com/ now includes elementary and jr hi schools. You may want to register in your schools.  Registering doesn't cost anything.

thank you for being so faithful in letting us know what is happening and keeping us in touch.  You and Scott have done a fantastic job and I really appreciate it.

I'm sorry we didn't make it to the picnic but we were both too tried.  We have decided never to drive the I-5 ever again.  Going home there was a 8 car accident and we had to double back and go through L.A. to get home.

I'm hoping to make it to Descanso Gardens.  Maybe I can help you find your exs home he lived up the street from me.

Julie French Espudo

[Cheryl Miller] My teens won't be there, but I could at least take a pic and know my way the next time. That would be a good thing!
I know about the traffic. Mark is weary of the driving, and not quite looking forward to Descanso. But an outing with no kids would be good for us.

Dear Cheryl,

I wanted to write to let you know how much the reunion meant to me and I wanted to thank you for your part in it.

When I was totally unprepared to face the world alone, my mother died when I was 22 and my father followed her four years later.  My sisters and I sold the house we had lived in almost our whole lives and I left La Canada that day with a broken heart.  The only way I could deal with the deep blow was to close the book on La Canada forever and never venture back.

And I met my husband along the way and had two children and we lived and travelled to some wonderful places but it always caught me off guard when people asked, "Where did you grow up?" Then I would remember La Canada and it would make me sad.

And that is why I didn't come to the 20 year reunion.   But I did decide to come this time and I am so glad that I did.  It was so wonderful to reconnect and to hear everybody's stories of where they had been and what they had accomplished these last three decades.

So, I had to write and thank you for making me feel welcome and for helping me realize that you can go home again.

Warmly,
Janet (Orvis) Buxton

Thank you so much for letting me know.  I didn't go to 20 year reunion cuz I was going thru tragedy after tragedy.  This reunion was coming home for me too.

10/22/2001 "I called Scott this afternoon, and I'll be working on getting to him all the digital pics.  He's going to get them up as soon as possible.

We've got some ideas for continuing to be able to stay in touch and, Dennis, the ideas include the kind of thing you and I were talking about.  I'm being vague - Scott will be writing up a better description.

Meanwhile, I want to let you all know about the picnic.

My carload arrived early, and we took the kids to Conrad's for breakfast. I told them I'd cut class once, and went to Conrad's, some years later I threw up in their bathroom pregnant with my first, and met my first husband's family often there. We arrived at the picnic a little late, and there were only a handful of people there.  However a little while later, there were many more.

The memories that come to mind - Michelle McGrath speaking about our learning the hula in elementary school and performing the Thanksgiving pageants. She still remembers and sang me the song about the Indians, and wouldn't let me video tape her. I hope one day she'll memorialize (is that the right word?) it for all of us.

I had missed seeing Hamner Dubois the night before. Margaret Pankratz hadn't been at the dance, but was at the picnic. She still lives in La Canada, and her kids attend LCHS.  Her husband is '70 Kris Smith.  '70 George Smith was there also.  You may not realize his mother was the girls' PE teacher, Mrs. Smith.  Michelle McGrath remembers Mrs. Smith bringing tennis star (I forgot the star's name again, *shaking my head* that's why it's a good idea to put these memories in writing) to talk to the girls.

*chuckle* I'll always remember Bonnie Boreham running all over with the yearbook - and feel grateful that she thought of it.  Did you know she spent part of her career with stars too? (Tv, movie, and sports stars).

Dr. Sandra Wallace said to me, "You finally decided to become a redhead!"

David Gray, Bob Thackara, Barbara Preston, and the Catlin family were all there.  My family sat in the van doing homework, my husband included, or made their own fun out on the grounds as I ran around socializing and taking pics.

When I was finally ready to leave, I tried to show my girls their dad's childhood home, but never found it, showed them my home, my jr hi and elementary school."

10/22/2001 "Dear Cheryl,

Thanks for the email.  Thanks also for everything you did to make the reunion such a fun time for everybody!

Janet Orvis Buxton"

10/22/2001 "The memories were great. The food was OK. But I am honored and in awe of the quiet acts of courage so many classmates now show in their lives. When did we grow so strong?

I think especially:

of Ken Methgen, who told me of his parents deaths and now, of his wife's struggle against breast cancer. Ken cares for his wife and his young son on his own without complaint. Duke, you are a rock!

of Michelle McGrath Wolfson with two special needs children, one autistic, and a girl with Downs syndrome I don't know how you do it. Wonder Woman, please move over.

of Doctor Lea Collins Lewis and her wonderful how-dare-you-tell-me-what-I-can't-do attitude towards life. Lea, for career planning and placement, I'll bet you are the very best.

of Terry Fenn Nagy whose son has stood in harm's way for us twice already, in Bosnia and in Kuwait, and now does so again. Terry, you get a campaign medal too, from all of us.

of Cheryl Moore Miller . Cheryl, for all the manure you've waded through, not only have you finally found your pony. You found a herd of ponies for the rest of us as well.

of Professor Leigh Zeitz. You still showed up and you brought us your fun, (even though your father died on the morning of the reunion. You didn't tell us that.) Leigh you always wanted to be a teacher and now you're a professor. You not only teach computers, you teach life. You've made us all proud.

and I could go on.

I draw strength from all of you. What a great group of people. What a gift you are to me.

And what an honor to be your classmate.

Dennis Phinney"

10/22/2001 "Hey Cheryl,

Wow what a night! Have you got your photo developed yet. I'd like to get some up as soon as possible.

Give me a call if you can. I was hoping we could talk about your thoughts on keeping the site(s) going and in what direction.

10/22/2001 "Hi Cheryl-

Subject: STORY BOOK THEATRE

I remember when we did Story Book Theatre at the La Canada Country Club. Bill Ledeen and I had set up these massive lights outside on the balcony. We were in constant disagreement with the club manager as to where all of our cords and light switches were going to go. After a whole afternoon of that hassle, we ducked out to get a bite to eat. I told Bill that the weather did not look to good. He reassured me that it would all be OK. Right after dinner the Santa Ana winds started to act up. You could see these lights swaying outside. I had to go out and tie them down and hold on to the rope so that they would not crash through the patio glass. I think that the audience was watching the lights than the actual performance that night. When it was over we moved the lights in for the night. I told Bill that I was not going out there the next night. The next night there was no winds! And then there was the road trip of Story Book Theatre to all of the elementary schools. We only performed certain acts then. It was great to see you at the 30th. I know that "sis" had a great time too. Steve Loop '72
