06/16/2001 " Yeh Joe ...He left quite an IMPRESSION on me too. I think he went unto play at Michigan. Pete"

06/16/2001 " Hey! I remember Ray Manchinski. 30 years later I still remember that stud. Too funny! Pete, I never played varsity, so I wasn't privy to the secret pact made by the players."

06/16/2001   " is someone I ran into back in the 70's. She was going to school at the University of Missouri in Columbia doing graduate work with a goal of becoming a doctor.

In the early 80's I came across . She was living in Santa Monica and she worked in Westwood. We talked occasionally and she seemed very happy.

was living in Pacific Palisades. He and his UCLA friends formed a band (Bob was the drummer). Thackara move up to Northern California back in the 80's. I hear that music is still his passion.

Paul Krause and I met in Boulder, Colorado in a neighborhood pub called the 'Broken Drum'. We'd see each other once in awhile. I believe he was doing construction work out there.

was also living in Boulder. Last I heard he married a mutual friend of ours, a girl from Texas. And he and her moved to College Station, TX.

I last saw in San Francisco. He is now living in Alaska. And last I heard he worked with the state government on environmental issues.

was attending Hastings law school in San Francisco last time I saw her."

"Hey Leigh! Good to hear from you. I remember hanging out at your house on Shepards Ln. all summer going into our sophomore year. And Boy Scouts! Remember we went to Camp Philmore that same summer. Honestly, that was one of the best things I've ever done in my life. Congrats on being a Professor. That is awesome. Take care,"

06/15/2001   " Hear what, Joe? I didn't hear anything . . .I DID get the number of that truck that hit you on that fateful night, however. =-0 Leigh (#71 - cleanest jersey on the field)"

"THE OMEGA IS WRONG.. MUST BE A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR...
LET ME TELL YA A LITTLE SECRET....
I HAVE NO MEMORY OF THAT GAME BEGINNING FROM THE MOMENT IN THE FIRST SET OF
DOWNS WHEN TEMPLE CITY HAD THE BALL ON THEIR OWN 20 YARD LINE.  THE QUARTERBACK GAVE THE BALL ON A DELAYED DRAW TO THEIR FULLBACK, RAY MASHINSKI WHO RAN THROUGH A HOLE BIG ENOUGH TO DRIVE A CAR THROUGH.  THE WEAK SIDE PULLING GUARD BLOCKED OUR INSIDE LINEBACKER AND MASHINSKI BROKE INTO OUR SECONDARY. I CAME UP FROM MY DEEP FREE SAFETY POSITION HEADING STRAIGHT FOR THE ON RUSHING 6'3, 225 LB --DOES THE 40 IN 4.3 SECONDS-- RUNNER.  HIS KNEES WERE LIKE PISTONS FIRING AWAY IN A RUNAWAY LOCOMOTIVE , HIS HEAD WAS DOWN AND HIS UPPER BODY WAS CROUCHED AS HE PICKED UP SPEED AND CUT TO THE OUTSIDE.

I THOUGHT TO MYSELF,"I GOT HIM NOW"

AS I MANUEVERED INTO POSITION TO MAKE THE BEST OPENFIELD- UNASSISTED TACKLE
OF MY CAREER, I STARTED TO PUT MY HELMUT DOWN AND RAISE MY ARMS TO SPEAR HIM RIGHT IN THE CHEST AND GRAB HIM AND BRING THIS GIANT OF A PLAYER DOWN.  HE HIT ME WITH THE FORCE OF A RAGING BULL ....FOR A SPLIT SECOND I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE CHEERING AND SCREAMING COMING FROM THE SIDELINES AND BLEACHERS. THEN AS I OPENED MY EYES AND TRIED TO FOCUS MY EYES THROUGH THE SWEAT AND BLOOD. I REALIZED THAT MY HELMUT HAD BEEN TORN OF MY HEAD AND I WAS FLAT ON MY BACK STARING UP AT THE FIELD LIGHTS WHICH LOOKED LIKE A HUNDRED SUNS IN THE SKY ABOVE ME.

AS I STARTED TO RAISE MYSELF UP AND LOOK AROUND, I SAW THE BACK OF NUMBER 35
RUNNING UNOPPOSED FOR OUR GOAL LINE......6 TO NOTHING.

AND THAT WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY MEMORY LOSS..
AT THE MONDAY- MORNING- AFTER- THE -GAME- TEAM MEETING....48 BALLPLAYERS TRIED TO REMEMBER WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND .....LO AND BEHOLD.....NOT ONE OF US COULD REMEMBER A SINGLE STINKING DETAIL OF THAT GAME. SO ...............WE COLLECTIVELY DECIDED THAT .... IT NEVER REALLY HAPPENED !!! THE GAME FILM DISAPPEARED... COACH EBEN NEVER MENTIONED IT AGAIN....

AND GOD HELP ANY ONE WHO DID...
DO YOU HEAR THAT LEIGH ???"

0615/2001 "Hey Mike, First of all, 1000miles =2 hours by jet divided by the numbers of months it takes to pay off your VISA card. which really isn't anything when you look at it in the BIG picture.

I have a class photo of Mrs. Urschel's class in which I think you are in wearing a cub scout uniform. My eyes are not what they used to be but I think it's you. Palm Crest guys were the best and dodge ball.
