"Hi Cheryl, I enjoyed
reading your note regarding the game last night. What fun it was to see the old
classmates as well as the football stadium and current student body. One
comment, you put in your note that any one can show up at the door. We really
need to know if people are going to show up - maybe be emailing me if there is
not enough time to send in ;their money. We have to give a head count 72
hours ahead of time and we really don't want to handle money at the door.
Maybe you could pass this minor change along. Please do let classmates know that
we really do want each and everyone of them to show. Who knows if we'll get the
opportunity again to get together in such grand fashion and it should be loads
of fun! See you Saturday! Sue"

"Cheryl, Thank you for
the update on LCHS reunion activities. My family and I had planned on going to
the homecoming game but my husband had surgery and was unable to go and I didn't
want to go alone. We are hoping he will be able to attend the reunion.
God willing we will see you next weekend."

"My husband, 3 teenagers
and their friends accompanied me to the football game. Lots of traffic getting
there from Redondo Beach to La Canada. I pointed out to my girls the church near
the high school where their dad, my first husband Phillip Barron '70, and I were
married. We went to McDonald's for dinner, and I was searching faces wondering
if I'd recognize anybody.
I couldn't remember where the football field was, and we stumbled on the field we thought it was, puzzled about why the field was deserted 1/2 hour before a homecoming game. *chuckle* My husband asked the guard and learned it was the Catholic High School field.
As we pulled in to the parking lot for OUR field, things began looking familiar to me. My husband was in a hurry to get a seat and watch the game so we settled in. I quickly noticed someone in the section to my right who looked familiar - I pointed at him and said John Cox. John nodded affirmation, either read my lips or heard me, but didn't recognize me. I introduced myself. Our group moved to join the alumni. As people joined us sometimes I had to introduce myself, or I didn't recognize people, recognized them right away, or recognized their faces and needed to be told their name that was familiar to me too.
Scott Williams, Gary Fentiman, Sue Honer, Julie Pejsa, Tuck Meador, Dennis Phinney, Scott Fuller, Jim Nichols, Steve Purvis, Phil Young, Jean Summerville, John Cox, Suzanne Elkins, Bob Frank, and Richard Myers were all there. Great time talking.
Spartans won!
139 people are registered for the reunion 10/20. They're still looking for people, and anyone can show up at the reunion last minute. Please check the missing classmates list on Scott's site
and see if you can help.
I've been unable to post to my lchs71 site and this weekend my husband finally as time to try to fix that. I'll be posting senior pictures of who was at the football reunion, this email, and a few "other" classmates responses to Michelle Colella being our country's Assistant Secretary of Defense.
Scott will be posting on his site Football Reunoin pictures he took and I took. I took a few videos on our digital camera and Jim Nichols was laughing at my confusion about how to work the camera - apparently still recording while I thought taking my finger off the button stopped the recording. *shrug with a giggle* Usually my 13yo daughter handles the camera for me, but she was walking around with her friend.
My husband and I will be at the reunion Saturday night 10/20. Don't hesitate to come single cuz there are others who aren't bringing their sposues.
My husband, kids and I will be at the reunion picnic Sunday 10/21. A No-Host Picnic Senior Area at LCHS beginning at noon. Bring your own lunch, family pictures and enjoy reliving our old campus days. We'll be showing my kids either before or after the picnic where their dad's and my childhood homes, schools and old haunts are. They want to see the beautiful homes in the hills too.
My husband and I will be at lchs70's Descanso Garden tour the next weekend, Saturday 10/27, that is described in the email below. We'll be going to the 9am tour, and going to the breakfast restaurant she recommends afterwards. Our kids will be with their other parents *secret relieved grin - looking forward to a kidless event for us*
All are welcome to the Descanso tour.

Dear Cheryl,
As far as I am concerned, the usual custom of having only one class reunite at a time seems a bit counterproductive when we can have the opportunity of seeing even more friends. Especially at "our age"!
Absolutely, please DO post the "tour" info. on your class's website. There is no official tour by a docent (I considered it, but decided that people would probably want to go at their own pace rather than a docent's), and our class has no reservation for that time in the gardens. I've merely set meeting times for the class of '70 to gather and the rest will take its course. The gardens are open to the public and I know people would LOVE to be able to see anyone from the class of '71 who wants to show up. Heck, any classes a few years before ours or after could come. What a trip to have all those people show up at Descanso and hang out!
I do plan to ask my mother (a former docent) to take me around a few weeks ahead of time so I will be a little bit more "hip" to some of the fun details. People will have to stay with me if they want to know how to find the trapdoor spider nests!
We walked there this morning and saw three deer, a mother and two youngsters, browsing among the foliage in the native plant section. Can't guarantee that experience on our morning, but you never know.
Take care,
Jody Kenney
Dear LCHS70 Garden Lovers:
I'd like to offer two "tours" of the gardens for those of you who are
interested.
Saturday, October 27th,
2001
The first will be at 9:00 a.m., when the gardens first open. Plan to meet at the
admissions gate at 8:45, and we'll have the best shot at the tranquility
Descanso provides. There's nothing listed on the website yet about our date, but
since it's around Halloween, there may be a lot of little kids in costumes
running around. They're pretty cute, actually. If I get more information on the
day's events, I'll post it.
We'll take about an hour for general touring, then you can go off and enjoy
places you liked the most OR go out to a WONDERFUL breakfast in Montrose. I
recommend the Black Cow, on the right as you drive onto Honolulu just after
crossing Verdugo. Breakfasts are outstanding, and the coffee is good, too. For
those of you who don't want to drive ALL the way into Montrose, there's a
Starbuck's and a Goldstein's Bagels across the way from Verdugo Hills Hospital
in the UA Theater complex.
The second "tour" will begin at 10:00 for those of you who went to the
Black Cow, etc., early, or just wanted to sleep in. Again, we will meet at the
front gate at about 9:50. I'll see if I can dig up an LCHS sign to get our group
together.
Of course, you may choose to show up at the Gardens at any time and wander
around trying to find us. I don't anticipate that we will move in an organized
pack anyway -- you just might want to linger somewhere. There is a wonderful
stream that meanders through the Rose Garden now, with grass and benches for
relaxing. You can sit and store up energy for the events of the weekend!
****Early birds who have membership in the arboretum system may be able to get
in at 8:00, which is an even better time at Descanso, especially for birding
(Whistler). Call the gardens to check to see if your card will get you in. I'll
be there at 8:00 if you will!
BRING YOUR CAMERA! There's always something beautiful on display. Also bring
your VISA card; the gift shop has truly appealing and tempting things. 10% off
purchase price if you have a membership card... I think the shop opens at 10:00.
Cost is listed below. For more information, including directions, please go to
www.descanso.com/general.cfm.
Admission
General $5.00. Senior/Students, and Youth $3.00. Children $1.00.
Guild members and Children under 5 are always free.
Tram $2.00. Enchanted Railroad $1.50 (Saturday and Sunday only.)
Looking forward to seeing you. Be well,
Jody Edwards Kenney
