Morro Bay, California, "The Machine Shop" (the little gray building on the right - they made it into a mall now)

My favorite place to live - Morro Bay. My first husband and I lived there from '78 - '82. We owned The Machine Shop on the bay, servicing the fisherman. Then the government changed the salmon fishing laws, the fishermen went broke, and so did we. Survived the next couple of years on piecework from LA. We laid off the employees and I learned to run the lathe and mill at the same time, doubling production of the 1 inch piece needed for IV equipment. I did 60 pieces an hour. They wanted 2000 pieces a week. It took us those couple of years to convince the town council a machine shop couldn't exist and they let us sell the building for another use. Barely escaped bankruptcy.

We lived in a little shack with a picture window overlooking the bay. We sometimes got paid in fish and crabs...mmmmm.
